I have heard so much about Taiwan over the years but somehow have never made the conscious choice to go there. When Jetstar had a good deal and everyone in the office was busy booking their trips, I finally made up my mind to explore this country that everyone has been raving about.
New zealand was Nic's baby (i.e. he planned the entire itinerary) so the responsibility for the Taiwan trip fell upon me:( i was crazily stressed about it because this trip was partly planned for my parents, i probably read hundreds of blogs and forum posts to figure out what is good. I'm glad to say it was an awesome trip albeit a few hiccups along the way..so a pat on the back for me!
i'm writing this part for memory sake and also to share with everyone who is planning a trip the good/bad things about the trip..my planning thought me the importance of such reviews, so now im giving back!
I'll begin with the hotels we stayed in because they are all pretty awesome!
AMBA Taipei Ximending
Well, the name says for itself where this hotel is located. We were right in the heart of XMD with a small Eslite mall just below the hotel (i gathered there are several in XMD itself). We booked the Medium room and was upgraded to a Large room WHEE! just for us though, not for my parents...we arrived a day earlier btw.
It's a very new and modern hotel. The lobby is on the 5th floor (i think) and it is beautifully decorated. Receptionists were really friendly and helpful too. Pricing wise was a little on the high side i believe. We paid 130 per night but we really liked the place so no complains!
PLUS points:
- Free yellow slippers :P
- Young and fun atmosphere
- Therapeutic ginger flavoured shampoo and showerfoam that were replenished daily
- Comfortable bed, good range of tv channels
- In the middle of XMD
- Good breakfast selection and the bar, buffet area is REALLY artsy and amazing
MOOT:
- Not the nearest to XMD. If you arrive late you will have to lug your luggage for 7-10mins past the night crowd from the MRT.
- Pretty thin walls
Some photos..I dont really like to take photos of rooms, so some are from the net!
Deco just across the reception
The very cool corridor
An idea of how the room looks like - i find it pretty accurate as from the website
Random camwhore in the room
Where we had breakfast
Room keys!very cute BA concept
CHI BA
Tian BA (downstairs)
That's all for amba! it's a lovely hotel!
